Johnny Heywood

Born in Glasgow, Scotland Johnny's first instrument, like so many school children, was the recorder  (" The Devil's instrument"). From this he moved onto the clarinet and piano and studied musical theory. After a couple of years in the Glasgow scene, Johnny headed for London and joined 60's pop pastiche band Hi Fidelity and played all over London  including supporting Dolly Mixtures at Dingwell's in a big anti-nuclear gig. He was invited to join a new band - Soul Purpose led by keyboard maestro Hilly Briggs, and his band became one of the top bands in Hertfordshire. Musicians who passed through it's ranks include drummers John Coghland (Status Quo), John Lingwood (Manfred Manns Earthband) and guitarist Paul Green (Suzi Quatro) Cliff Brown later of fire in the hole, was a long time member too. Johnny has also found time to gig with Phil May (The Pretty Things), Gary Barden (Michael Schenker), Harvey Hinsley (Hot Chocolate), Mac Poole (War Horse) and Clem Curtis (The Foundations). He has toured Europe and Britain with John Coghlan's Quo supporting Manfred Mann's Earthbad. This line up also included Chick Churchill (ten years after) on keyboards.

Lee Herbert

Lee has been a professional drummer for more than 30 years, gigging from the age of 11 years, which is more than long enough! He can sing too and play bass but he doesn't get any more money for being a smart arse.
Lee has played with many musicians and has supported Roy Wood and the Tornados and was also a member of the New Mud, Which recreated the music of the 70's rock and roll band.  He has also spent the last 10 years playing in the Wings/ Paul McCartney tribute band Wingsbanned with fellow Large Portion member John Heywood. The band has experienced great success and gigs all over the world.

Marcus Lazarus

Ho'way the lads! Marcus claims to be a Geordie but in reality is one of the 'Southern Softies', but don't mention that in conversation - he gets irked rather easily! Growing up in the North East and subsequently spending ten years in Yorkshire, Marcus has been a member of various outfits including tributes to McCartney and Pink Floyd. Influenced by the likes of Gary Moore and Joe Bonamassa, he has played regularly at the annual Beatles Festival in Liverpool, with headlining gigs alongside original WINGS members Henry McCullough,
Denny Siewell, Steve Holley and Howie Casie. Marcus has also recorded in Studio 2 of Abbey Road - yes, THAT studio. Now living in Hertfordshire, Marcus has his own Blues / Rock who play occasional gigs as well as his new McCartney venture Ramjet. Marcus is delighted to join The Large Portion who obviously share the same musical heritage!

Ian Herbert

Like his older brother Lee, Ian was brought up with music in his blood. He has been playing the Guitar for many years and with his vocals and harmonising, he is a great addition of The Large Portion. Also, because he is the baby of the band, we get to boss him around, LOL !!
Ian has been in many bands including Wingsbanned with fellow Large Portion members Johnny and Lee.
Ian brings some of his favourite artists and songs to our song list, which is very exciting.... so watch this space !!
